Zimbra Collaboration Suite: Architecture and functionality

ZIMBRA Collaboration Suite is an engine applications suite open source for the management of e-mail and the collaboration between work groups through shared calendars and documents sharing.

E-mail

Zimbra offers a rich-client with a lot of functions (both through Zimbra Desktop program and Browser), technically very advanced if related to currents post client. Zimbra’s use through browser is fluent and intuitive, thanks to pervasive deployment of Ajax and the presence of an engine motor of visual search.

Contacts

Contacts made available by Zimbra makes you able to apply tag to contacts, grouping them. For a more productive use in work groups, index book can be shared (totally or partially) with the others members of the team. The use is immediate, and it is just as good as dedicated stand-alone applications. Also in this case is possible to apply tag to contacts, grouping them. Index book takes advantage to the search builder, as other components of the suite. Calendar

It’s one of the most using applications in collaborative suites, and it allows to create personal calendar, in which insert yours appointments. It’s also possible to create shared calendars, in which every member of a group can insert his appointments and visualize events inserted by others.

Zimbra makes you able to create and manage e-mail box shared with other members and work groups.

Documents

Zimbra makes you able to create and modify on-line documents (both text and work sheets), to share with the group and it is available the collaborative editing (which works as a wiki).

Briefcase

Zimbra allows the creation and the management of boxes for depositing and sharing of company documents through users and work groups. Who use Firefox as web browser, can use the plug-in that allows to manage these boxes with an easy drag & drop from your desktop.

Task

Zimbra allows to do list in an exclusive way or shared one with synchronization function also with other’s task post clients.

Messaging and VoIP

Unified messaging, with the integration of VoIP Open Source Asterisk, makes possible to call a contact from the index book, or a number presents in a e-mail or still begin conference calls with your team by using Voice over IP.

Instant Messaging
